$19M Series A Funding Secured by Rice University Medical Device Spinout

The health tech startup Motif Neurotech has secured nearly $19 million in a series A funding round. The company, which develops minimally invasive bioelectronics for mental health treatment, was formed out of the Rice Biotech Launch Pad at Rice University. The funding will be used to develop the company’s inaugural product, the DOT microstimulator, which aims to provide at-home therapy for treatment-resistant depression. The round was led by Arboretum Ventures and included participation from several other investors. Tom Shehab from Arboretum Ventures and Amy Kruse from Satori Neuro will join Motif Neurotech’s board of directors.
