Revolutionary Mosa Meat secures €40M to bring lab-grown beef

TLDR:

  • Mosa Meat raised €40 million in new capital to bring cultivated beef to consumers.
  • Funds will be used to scale up production processes and prepare for market entry.

Maastricht-based Mosa Meat, a leader in cultivated beef production, announced a successful €40 million funding round to help bring their product to consumers. The oversubscribed round was led by Lowercarbon Capital and M Ventures, with additional support from new government-backed partners like Invest-NL and the European Commission’s InvestEU program. These funds will be crucial in scaling up production processes and preparing for market entry, as the company works towards offering cultivated beef as a viable option for consumers.
New partners, including those from the conventional meat sector, have joined in this initiative. Maarten Bosch, CEO of Mosa Meat, highlighted the importance of collaboration and connecting different organizations to work towards a future where cultivated beef can combat climate crisis, biodiversity loss, and food insecurity.
Having opened a scale-up facility and becoming a B Corp last year, Mosa Meat is now gearing up for their first formal tastings of cultivated beef in The Netherlands. This milestone marks an important step in their mission to create a more diverse and resilient food system. With the support of new and existing partners, the company is positioned to make a significant impact in the food industry and address pressing environmental challenges.
