  • 45% of the total PE exits were reported in financials, followed by consumer discretionary at 18% and IT at 11%
  • Foreign private equity and venture capital funds dominated the exits with an 83% share in total exits, totalling Rs 81,200 crore
  • In 2023, over 57 Indian companies collectively raised Rs 49,000 crore in the stock market
  • The year 2023 saw the second-highest number of mainboard IPOs in over a decade

The report highlights the strong performance of the private equity and venture capital market in India, with a significant number of exits in 2023. This indicates a healthy investment climate, as investors are able to exit their investments and realize their returns.

The financial sector accounted for the largest share of PE exits, which is not surprising given the strong growth and profitability of financial companies in India. This sector has attracted significant investment in recent years, and it is encouraging to see that investors are able to exit these investments and generate returns.

Foreign private equity and venture capital funds were the dominant players in the Indian market, accounting for 83% of total exits in 2023. This highlights the attractiveness of the Indian market for foreign investors, who are seeking high-growth opportunities and attractive returns on their investments.

The stock market also performed well in 2023, with over 57 Indian companies collectively raising Rs 49,000 crore through IPOs. This indicates strong investor confidence in the Indian market, as companies are able to raise significant capital through public offerings.

Overall, the report suggests that the private equity and venture capital market in India is robust and continuing to grow. The strong performance of the financial sector and the high level of foreign investment indicate a positive investment climate in the country. With the number of IPOs also increasing, it is clear that there is strong demand for investment opportunities in India.
