Thriving Chinese Krill Company Attracts 3 Fresh Venture Capitalists

TLDR

  • Health-focused venture capital firm, Cathay Innovations, is among the three new investors in Chinese krill-processing firm Function (Qingdao) Marine Technology.
  • The other two investors are China Railway Construction Investment Group and Shandong Health Group, both state-owned companies.
  • Function is a major purchaser of krill oil from suppliers globally.

A health-focused international venture capital firm, Cathay Innovations, is one of the three new investors in Chinese krill-processing firm Function (Qingdao) Marine Technology. Cathay Innovations, which describes itself as “a global venture capital platform investing in startups positively impacting the world through technology,” is part of the Cathay Capital group and has offices in China, Europe, and the U.S. The other two investors in Function are state-owned companies: China Railway Construction Investment Group and Shandong Health Group. China Railway Construction Investment Group is the venture capital arm of the state-owned company that builds and operates railways both domestically and abroad, while Shandong Health Group has made significant investments in elder care facilities across China’s east coast.

Function, also known as Fengshi Technology, is a major purchaser of krill oil from suppliers globally. Krill oil is known for its health benefits, particularly its omega-3 fatty acids, which are believed to have numerous health advantages. As a result, the investment by Cathay Innovations, a health-focused venture capital firm, is in line with Function’s focus on health and wellness.

With these three new investors, Function (Qingdao) Marine Technology is expected to strengthen its position in the krill-processing industry and expand its operations. This investment also highlights the increasing interest and potential in the krill market, which has been driven by growing consumer demand for health supplements and functional foods.

Overall, the influx of venture capital investment in Function signifies the growing recognition of the value and potential of the krill-processing industry and its ability to positively impact the world through technology and health-focused products. This investment is likely to further stimulate the growth and development of Function and contribute to the expansion of the global krill market.
