Taiwanese VC CDIB partners with Cool Japan Fund for $62m fund

CDIB Capital Group, a venture capital arm of Taiwanese financial conglomerate KGI Financial Holdings, has joined hands with Cool Japan Fund, a Japanese state-backed investment company, to launch a $62m joint fund aimed at fostering collaboration between startups in Japan and Taiwan. The CDIB Cross Border Innovation Fund, which has raised $62m so far with plans to reach between $75m and $100m, will primarily invest in startups operating in the mobile commerce, digital transformation, AI, blockchain, and lifestyle sectors.

Other contributors to the fund include Himax, a Taiwanese semiconductor company, and Systex, an IT service provider based in Taiwan. CDIB Capital Group, with over 200 portfolio companies and $2.3bn in assets under management, has a strong history in the venture capital space. In May 2024, the firm participated in a $51m series B funding round for TX One Network, a Taiwanese cybersecurity company, further solidifying its commitment to supporting innovative startups in the region.
