SHICKEN Takes Flight: $53m Investment Fuels US Expansion

TLDR

  • Plant-based chicken manufacturer SHICKEN received a $5.3m investment from Veg Capital to expand into the US market.
  • SHICKEN plans to use the investment to increase its global retail footprint and enhance manufacturing capabilities.

SHICKEN, a plant-based chicken manufacturer, has secured a $5.3 million investment from Veg Capital to fuel its expansion into the US market, according to Co-founder and CEO Parm Bains. The UK-based company, known for its range of Asian curries and kebabs made from a blend of textured soy protein and wheat protein, recently launched its products in 410 Sprouts Farmers Markets in the US. The investment from Veg Capital, totaling $7.9 million, will be utilized by SHICKEN to grow its global retail presence, with a focus on increasing business outside of the UK. The company also plans to enhance its manufacturing capabilities, having built its own state-of-the-art facility in 2023. By taking control of its manufacturing process, SHICKEN aims to ensure quality, efficiency, and cost control.

SHICKEN’s product offerings initially focused on classic Indian dishes, but the brand is now expanding to offer a variety of Asian flavors inspired by different heritages and cuisines. Consumers are increasingly seeking authentic Asian flavors in plant-based products, and SHICKEN is responding to this demand by developing new offerings. The company’s commitment to clean-label ingredients aligns with changing consumer behaviors towards more natural and quality products. By prioritizing ingredients that consumers can recognize and find in their own kitchens, SHICKEN aims to provide high-quality plant-based options that meet consumer standards for health and authenticity.

In a market where consumers are becoming more selective about processed plant-based products, SHICKEN’s focus on authenticity, quality, and cleanliness sets it apart as a brand catering to evolving consumer preferences. With the investment from Veg Capital, SHICKEN is poised to expand its presence in the US and beyond, offering consumers globally a taste of authentic Asian cuisine in plant-based form.
