Andrew Smyth has taken on a new role as managing partner at Microsoft’s corporate venture capital division, M12. His responsibilities in this position will include overseeing investments in early-stage cybersecurity and enterprise infrastructure companies. Smyth recently led a $25.6 million funding round for Neon, an open-source database platform, in collaboration with other venture capital firms. M12, previously known as Microsoft Ventures, focuses on supporting companies that align with Microsoft’s strategic interests in areas such as AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and developer tools. Michelle Gonzalez, head of M12, welcomed Smyth to the team, highlighting his past experience as a general partner at Atlantic Bridge where he invested in enterprise software companies. Earlier this year, Michael Stewart was also promoted to managing partner within the M12 unit.
