TLDR:

  • Venture capitalist Ramanan Raghavendran has been appointed as the new chair of the University of Pennsylvania’s board of trustees.
  • Raghavendran will take over from Scott Bok, who resigned last month amid controversy.

Venture capitalist Ramanan Raghavendran has been selected as the new chair of the University of Pennsylvania’s board of trustees, following the sudden resignation of Scott Bok. Raghavendran, a graduate of Penn and managing partner of venture capital firm Amasia, will take on the role immediately. Raghavendran has been a Penn trustee since 2014 and chair of the School of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors. He expressed his belief in the importance of American universities and their role in society. The University of Pennsylvania is going through a challenging period, with its president, Liz Magill, stepping down after controversial testimony before Congress. Bok also resigned as board chair on the same day.

Raghavendran will replace interim chair Julie Platt, who will return to her role as vice chair. The university has also appointed J. Larry Jameson, its longest-serving dean, as interim president. This change in leadership comes at a time of upheaval for the Ivy League institution.
