Naomi Osaka’s Hana Kuma Secures Players Fund Investment

TLDR:

  • The Players Fund invests in Hana Kuma, Naomi Osaka’s production company.
  • Hana Kuma raised an initial US$5 million in a 2023 seed round and produces innovative content.

Athlete-led venture capital firm, The Players Fund, has recently invested in Hana Kuma, the production company co-founded by tennis star Naomi Osaka. The investment adds to existing partnerships with LeBron James, Nike, and FSG. The Players Fund, launched in August last year, counts more than 50 sportspeople as investors, including Ben Stokes, Jessica Ennis-Hill, and Allyson Felix.

Hana Kuma, a ‘next-generation content platform’, raised an initial sum of US$5 million in a 2023 seed round and has produced Emmy-nominated content such as Mink and Footsteps. Naomi Osaka expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that it aligns with their mission to uplift diverse voices through storytelling. The Players Fund’s managing partner, Fergus Bell, believes the investment will accelerate Hana Kuma’s growth alongside partners like Epic Games and Nike.

With the support of The Players Fund’s athlete investors, Hana Kuma aims to form new partnerships and explore fresh content creation opportunities in the future.
