Isar Aerospace Blasts Off with €65M+ in Funding

TLDR:

  • Isar Aerospace, a German space technology company, raises over €65M in Series C extension round.
  • The funding round includes investment from NATO Innovation Fund and other new and existing investors.

Germany’s Isar Aerospace has announced an extension of its Series C funding round, raising over €65M to reach a total of more than €220M. The company, which specializes in launch solutions for satellite constellations, has now received total funding exceeding €400M, with investment from the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) as a significant participant. NIF, backed by 24 NATO Allies, supports deep tech companies working on defense, security, and resilience challenges. This marks the first direct investment of NIF in a satellite launch provider, showing the importance of space technologies for Europe and the UK’s technological sovereignty. The round also saw participation from new investors like G3T and 10x Group, among others, along with contributions from existing investors.

Isar Aerospace, founded in 2018, focuses on developing and manufacturing launch vehicles for small to medium-sized satellites and satellite constellations. The company’s flagship two-stage orbital launch vehicle, Spectrum, is designed specifically for deploying satellite constellations to Earth’s orbit. With plans to establish a commercial launch vehicle production facility near Munich in collaboration with VGP Group, Isar Aerospace aims to manufacture up to 40 Spectrum launch vehicles annually. This facility, supported by the recent funding round, will enable the company to meet the increasing demand for launching satellites into orbit from both the private and public sectors.

Co-founder and CEO of Isar Aerospace, Daniel Metzler, expressed confidence in the company’s approach and emphasized the role of space technologies in shaping economies and societies. The investment from the NATO Innovation Fund signals a strong endorsement of Isar Aerospace’s work and underscores the importance of promoting private innovation in Europe to compete on a global scale.
