TLDR:

  • US investors attended the U.S.-Morocco Venture Capital Forum in Marrakech to explore investment opportunities in Moroccan tech startups
  • The forum aimed to strengthen commercial ties and encourage investment in the region ahead of GITEX Africa 2024

US investors gathered at the U.S.-Morocco Venture Capital Forum in Marrakech to explore investment opportunities in Moroccan tech startups. Co-hosted by the United States Mission in Morocco and the U.S. government’s Prosper Africa initiative, the two-day forum aimed to strengthen commercial ties and encourage investment in the region.

The event, held ahead of GITEX Africa 2024, brought together U.S. and regional venture capital investors, Moroccan government officials, and startup founders. U.S. Ambassador Puneet Talwar highlighted the strong U.S.-Morocco investment relationship, emphasizing the potential for growth in Morocco’s startup ecosystem.

British Robinson, Prosper Africa Coordinator, recognized the potential of Moroccan startups and showcased them to U.S. venture capital funds and their African VC peers. The Forum featured discussions on Morocco’s entrepreneurship ecosystem and matchmaking sessions between startups and VCs, highlighting the country’s investment readiness.

It is important to note that Morocco is the only African country with a free trade agreement with the United States, leading to over 150 U.S. companies operating in Morocco across key sectors. The forum served as a platform for collaboration and investment opportunities between the U.S. and Morocco in the tech startup sector.
