The Ghana Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (GVCA) and Impact Investing Ghana (IIGh) have launched a baseline research report on the State of Venture Capital and Private Equity (VC/PE) in Ghana. The report offers an analysis on the impact of VC/PE investments on economic growth, gender equality, and social outcomes since 2004, providing actionable insights for the growth of the sector.

Funded by GSG Impact and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the report was unveiled at the Ghana Impact Summit 2024. The 20-year-old VC/PE ecosystem in Ghana has shown resilience and growth post-COVID-19, with significant increases in deal volume and value.

Addressing data gaps identified in previous studies, the report highlights the growth of the VC/PE industry in Ghana, from a single fund in 1992 to nearly USD 7 billion in funding in 2023. This growth has led to job creation, improved access to essential services, and progress in climate action.

The CEO of GVCA, Hannah Acquah, emphasized the importance of VC/PE as drivers of economic growth and entrepreneurship in Ghana and Africa. The CEO of Impact Investing Ghana, Amma Lartey, expressed hopes that the report would encourage higher levels of local VC/PE investments for impactful projects in Ghana.

Impact Investing Ghana is focused on promoting sustainable development and advancing the impact investment ecosystem in Ghana, while GVCA aims to attract more capital into the VC/PE industry to support local businesses. GSG Impact, active in over 50 countries, supports the transformation of global financial systems to consider impact, risk, and return in every investment decision.
