TLDR: At $1.7 billion, Private Equity-Venture Capital investments dip in July

Key Points:

  • July 2024 saw a decline in Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) investments with 64 deals amounting to $1.7 billion.
  • The month had four mega deals exceeding $100 million each, totaling $1.2 billion.

Investments by Private Equity-Venture Capital (PE-VC) firms declined significantly in July, with the lowest number of deals recorded this year. The month had a total of 64 deals with an investment value of $1.7 billion, marking a sharp 49% decline compared to the previous month of June. This figure also represented a $200 million decrease from July last year. The largest deal in July was Canadian asset management firm Brookfield’s acquisition of a majority stake in a renewable energy company for over $200 million.

According to data from research firm Venture Intelligence, the month of July witnessed a total of four mega deals, each valued at more than $100 million, with a collective value of $1.2 billion. Despite the overall decline in investments, the month saw seven more deals compared to the same period in the previous year.

Arun Natarajan, founder of Venture Intelligence, highlighted that the positive signs for the remaining year include the completion of the elections, favorable steps in the Union budget to encourage PE-VC investments, and a strong public market. Natarajan also emphasized the growth of the ecosystem, citing the example of electric vehicle company Ola Electric, which transitioned from raising funds to going public in just a year.

On a year-to-date basis, the total value of deals in the current calendar year was down by 20% compared to the same period in the previous year. While the Jan-July period in 2024 saw investments amounting to $17 billion, it was $21.3 billion during the same period in 2023.

In conclusion, the article highlights the fluctuations in PE-VC investments in July and provides insights into the factors influencing the investment landscape.
