Valpas, a Helsinki-based pest control startup, has secured €4 million in seed funding to expand its solution in Europe. The funding round was led by Zenith VC, with participation from several other venture capital firms. The startup, founded in 2017, offers a tech-based solution using ‘smart bed legs’ to capture bedbugs before infestations occur, notifying staff for proper management. This chemical-free solution aims to address the growing issue of bedbug infestations in hotels and short-term rentals, which cost the hospitality industry billions each year. Valpas plans to use the investment to scale its solution in preparation for a busy summer of international travel, particularly in light of upcoming sporting events in Europe. Their goal is to build partnerships with travel booking agents to promote bedbug-safe accommodations for travelers. The Valpas product is currently being used in over 300 hotels managed by renowned brands such as Bob W, Accor, and Design Hotels. The company’s CEO, Martim Gois, emphasizes the importance of providing clean and safe accommodations for travelers to prevent bedbug infestations at home. Zenith VC partner and CEO, Erik Lindblad, commends Valpas for its innovative solution and believes the company has the potential to become a global leader in the industry.
