On the other side, Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, is positioning itself as a key player in the entrepreneurship landscape. Ranked third in Latin America for venture investment activity, Bogotá has seen rapid growth in its startup ecosystem, with over 1,300 startups experiencing expansion. This growth is attributed to increased accessibility to technology, support from accelerators like Techstars and Y Combinator, and interest from global investment funds.
The Executive Director of Invest in Bogota, Isabella Muñoz, highlighted the resilience of Colombian entrepreneurs and the increasing venture capital investments in the region. In 2023 alone, Colombian entrepreneurs raised approximately USD 647 million through a variety of sources. Bogotá leads the nation in financing rounds and capital raised, with US venture capital firms showing significant interest in investing in Colombian startups. Notable investments include Softbank’s historic USD 1 billion investment in Rappi and contributions from Tiger Global Management, Quona Capital, and 8VC.
