February 2024 Sees Chennai PE-VC Deals Reach $17bn

This marks a $400 million rise from the same period last year, showcasing a positive trend in the sector. The top investments during this period include NIIF’s investment in iBus in the communications tech sector, Actis in Patel Infrastructure HAM Road Assets in the roads infrastructure sector, and investments by Mubadala Investment, Avendus PE, and Kotak Investment Advisors in the education-focused NBFC Avanse Financial.

The overall investments in the Jan-Feb period of 2024 amounted to $4.5 billion, showing a significant jump of $1 billion compared to the same period in CY2023. This trend indicates a robust start to the year in terms of PE-VC deals. Notably, the number of deals in Feb 2024 increased from 58 in the previous year to 72, signaling a growth in investor activity in the sector.

Arun Natarajan, founder of Venture Intelligence, highlighted the positive trend observed in February, noting a bounce back in PE-VC deals. He also mentioned the increase in VC-type investments during the month, particularly in consumer internet & mobile startups and D2C brands. This growth in investments, coupled with a promising start to the year driven by strong public markets and IPOs, sets a positive tone for PE-VC funding in 2024.
