AVAC transforms into Verdex Capital: A new chapter begins

TLDR:

  • AVAC Group officially rebrands as Verdex Capital, focusing on Canadian agricultural innovation.
  • Verdex Capital invests directly through its AgTech venture studio, Carrot Ventures, launched in partnership with Farm Credit Canada.

The AVAC Group has officially changed its name to Verdex Capital, marking a significant shift in its investment strategy and corporate focus. Originally incorporated as AVAC Management II Co. Ltd. in 2015, the rebranding reflects the company’s commitment to Canadian agricultural innovation. Verdex Capital invests directly through its AgTech venture studio, Carrot Ventures, which aims to commercialize AgTech innovations applicable to Canadian agriculture.

CEO Martin Vetter emphasized the company’s renewed focus on Canada’s agricultural sector, stating that the rebrand formalizes their commitment to agricultural innovation. In addition to investing in technology startups and fund managers, Verdex Capital is dedicated to advancing Canadian agriculture for triple-bottom-line outcomes, combining economic returns with environmental and social impact.

As part of the rebranding process, Verdex Capital is seeking input from the community to advance Canada’s agricultural innovation and startup ecosystems. The company invites individuals engaged in AgTech/FoodTech research, venture finance, agriculture, or food processing operations to participate in the Canadian AgFocus Survey to share their insights and help prioritize community investment initiatives.

Verdex Capital, formerly known as AVAC Group, is a purpose-driven venture capital firm targeting high-impact ventures and community development initiatives in Canadian agriculture. The company also selectively invests as a limited partner in other venture capital funds. Carrot Ventures, the AgTech venture studio launched in partnership with Farm Credit Canada, focuses on commercializing early-stage agricultural technologies and creating new companies to drive innovation in the sector.
