Despite a surge of $20.8bn in venture capital (VC) investment in education technology (edtech) in 2021, investment levels have fallen significantly in recent years. The decline in VC funding can be attributed to the absence of “mega-rounds” where venture funding exceeds $100m, as well as several business failures and increased government regulation in China. However, there is hope that artificial intelligence (AI) could revive the edtech market in 2024. The development of large language models using AI could transform education by delivering personalized learning on a one-to-one basis. Nevertheless, there are concerns that AI may only benefit the already strong learners, leaving behind those who are less fortunate.
Will AI boost edtech to 2021 VC funding heights again?
