Enterprise Ireland is on the hunt for hidden unicorns, having invested in more than 300 start-ups in the past four years. The state agency, which supports Irish businesses, has backed tech companies with growth potential and global ambition. Although little known outside Ireland, these businesses have raised more than €100m ($112m) since gaining investment from the agency. Enterprise Ireland aims to encourage international venture capitalists to consider its portfolio of companies as potential investments and has partnered with Data Collective, Silicon Valley’s biggest dedicated big data and deep tech venture capital firm. The agency is focusing on businesses in frontier technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics, as well as medtech companies.
