With the first quarter of 2024 behind us, analysts are analyzing the dealmaking landscape. The CB Insights State of Venture Q1’24 report highlighted a mixed bag for VC dealmaking, showing a decrease to a 7-year low. Despite this, there was an 11% QoQ climb in venture funding, reaching $58.4B, driven by generative AI deals. The report also noted a 7% global decline in deals, with the US being the only region showing a small increase. Deals worth $100M+ grew by 30% QoQ, with 105 transactions in the quarter, mostly driven by large corporate investors. Fintech funding saw a significant drop, while digital health and retail tech funding increased. Silicon Valley continued to dominate US funding, receiving $14.4B in Q1’24. Although the global economic recovery will take time, there are positive trends to watch as we move forward into Q2.
