MOL invests in US WIG craft developer with venture capital

Mitsui OSK Lines’ venture capital arm, MOL Switch, has made a strategic investment in Regent Craft, a US company developing wing-in-ground (WiG) craft. The investment will support Regent in bringing its “seaglider” technology to Japan. Regent has received over 600 seaglider orders worth more than $9bn from leading airline and ferry operators. The company’s first 12-passenger seaglider, Viceroy, can travel at 180 mph to service routes up to 180 miles on a single charge. Japan Airlines Innovation Fund and Yamato Holdings have also invested in Regent, highlighting growing interest in WiG technology in Japan.
