Empowering African Women in VC: Leveling the Field with Deals

TLDR:

  • African women in venture capital are working to level the playing field in the tech ecosystem.
  • TLcom Capital, led by Andreata Muforo, is actively supporting underrepresented founders.

In a conversation with WT, Andreata discusses the challenges women entrepreneurs face in accessing venture capital, including biases and limited capital at the pre-seed stage. TLcom Capital aims to tackle these issues by collaborating with mission-driven companies led by women and local founders to address funding gaps on the continent.

Despite Africa having high proportions of women entrepreneurs, the tech ecosystem still faces significant gender funding gaps, with solo female founders securing only 2% of VC funds last year. TLcom Capital is committed to fostering gender equality and diversity in the tech investment landscape, with 60% of its partners being female and a majority of women on its investment committee.

TLcom Capital actively works to increase the representation of women in leadership roles within the startups it invests in, recognizing the value that diverse teams bring to companies. By encouraging diversity in VC and startup leadership, TLcom Capital is driving real change and establishing a more inclusive ecosystem where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed.
